A. Service

  • As a WHO collaborating center for diarrhoeal diseases research and training, this laboratory operates as a Reference Laboratory and receives 1000 to 1500 strains per year from 30-40 institutions in India and abroad for biotyping, serotyping and phage typing.
  • Serving the nation by conducting investigations of the outbreaks of diarrhoeal diseases throughout the country and suggest control measures.
  • This laboratory is supplying cholera bacteriophages and propagating strains to different
    institutions of the country from time to time.

C. Achievements

  • New phage typing schemes specific for V. cholerae O1 & O139 were developed at this laboratory.
  • All O1 phages both from conventional and new scheme were deposited in ATCC with accession number.
  • Scientist from this laboratory made presentations at national and international meetings and visited collaborating laboratories.
