A

Three-Day Workshop

On

“Understanding Genome” – A Bioinformatics Approach

Dated: 28-30th April 2011

The aim of the workshop is to provide participants an overview of bioinformatics tools and techniques for analyzing genomics and proteomics data. The broad areas to be covered during various sessions include; Genome Assembly and Annotation, Comparative Genome Analysis, Phylogenetic Analysis, Protein Structure Modeling, Hands-on experience on related software, actual real-time problem solving and open discussion session.

Participation is free and mainly intended for the peoples from MBBS, M.Pharma, M.Sc. (Life sciences), M.Tech. (Life sciences) or B.Tech. (Life sciences) and other scientific staffs interested to apply bioinformatics in biological data analysis.

Summer Training Program

Biomedical Informatics Centre, NICED is going to organize a Summer Training Program on bioinformatics for 3 to 6 months. This training program is intended to provide participants an overview of bioinformatics tools and techniques to analyze biological data.

No training fee is required but candidates have to arrange their own accommodations during the training period.

Qualification: M.Sc./M.Tech. (Physical/Chemical/Biological/Computer Science) and B.Tech. (Life Science). (Appearing students of M.Sc./M.Tech. can also apply)

Two Consecutive Workshops Entitled:


“STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY & BIOINFORMATICS”

On

17th & 18th May 2010

&

“BIOLOGICAL SEQUENCE ANALYSIS”

On

20th & 21st May 2010

 

Inaugural lecture will be given by Dr. Chhabinath Mandal, Emeritus Scientist, NIPER (IICB), Kolkata.

The aims of the workshops are to provide participants with an insight and prelude of fundamental bioinformatics approaches to solve different biological problems.

  1. Structural Biology & Bioinformatics (17th & 18th May 2010)
    This workshop is intended to be an overall introduction of bioinformatics approaches and computational methodologies commonly used in structural biology and molecular design. The Discovery Studio software will be used to demonstrate during the hands on sessions.
     

  2. Biological Sequence Analysis (20th & 21st May 2010)
    Sequence analysis in bioinformatics implies to all noble changes made to a DNA or Protein sequence in order to find the required data by using bioinformatics techniques. This workshop includes an insight to open source tools and techniques used for the analysis purposes according to the user’s need.

This workshop is mainly intended for the people from MBBS, M.Pharma, M.Sc. (Life sciences), M.Tech. (Life sciences) or B.Tech. (Life sciences) and other scientific staffs who either work in genomics and proteomics or are interested in understanding how to incorporate such data into their research.

Participation is free but participants will be allowed to attend only one workshop. So they are requested to apply for any one of the workshops mentioned above. If any participants send application for both the workshops, one application will be chosen for consideration and the other will be rejected.

is organizing a workshop on

BIOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY AND BIOINFORMATICS”
(BKDBio) –A Perspective from Disease Databases


29th & 30th June 2009

The workshop will mainly focus on biological disease databases and information mining. Each day there will be lectures and hands-on computer lab-sessions. The broad areas to be covered during various sessions include: Type and organization of biological data, Information Mining, Genetic research and disease databases, etc. as well as Hands-on experience on related software, case studies, actual real-time problem solving and open discussion session.
Prof. Nitai Bhattacharyya, Head of Crystallography and Molecular Biology Division, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) and Prof. Jayprakash Chakrabarti, Department of Theoretical Physics, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), kindly agreed to deliver lectures in this workshop.

Participation is free and mainly intended for people holding MBBS, M.Pharma, M.Sc. (Life sciences), M.Tech. (Life sciences) or B.Tech. (Life sciences) degrees who either work in genomics and proteomics or are interested in understanding how to incorporate such tools into their research.
